The leader of the Boko Haram terrorist group, Abubakar Shekau, announced that he has killed the Boko Haram spokesman, Abu Zinnira, AKA Tasiu. He made this announcement on Friday, Dec 18th 2016, while speaking to an inner circle of his group, telling them that he killed Tasiu because he and another Boko Haram senior commander, Baba Ammar, plotted to oust him. He also accused them of sending troops out on raids without his knowledge and spreading rumours among his lieutenants that he intended to kill them. The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed an appeal by the suspended General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Church, Rev. Paul Emeka, challenging his suspension and dismissal from the church. In a unanimous judgment by its five-man panel, the apex court resolved the leadership tussle in favour of the church and its Acting General Superintendent, Rev. Chidi Okoroafor. In the lead judgment by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, the apex court affirmed  the decision of the Court of Appeal in Enugu which had upheld the suspension and dismissal of the appellant by the church. The apex court held that there was no proper proof that the suit at the trial court was properly served on the respondents as required by law. The naira climbed to a three-month high at 450 against the United States dollar on the parallel market on Friday, as the scarcity of the greenback began to fade out on the official and black foreign exchange markets. This came four days after the Central Bank of Nigeria commenced the implementation of the reformed foreign exchange policy aimed at boosting dollar supply on the official market. The local currency, which had tumbled to 520/dollar on Monday, closed at 495 on Thursday. Following the announcement of the new forex policy measures by the CBN on Monday, the naira commenced a gradual reversal of its previous losses, closing at 512/dollar on Tuesday. It recorded further gain on Wednesday and Thursday, closing at 505/dollar and 495/dollar, respectively. Foreign exchange traders said the CBN had intervened on the official market in recent days. There was outrage in Enugu after a Facebook post showed pupils of a private nursery and primary school, Early Dew Montessori Academy, Enugu, aged between four and seven years, in a police van, purportedly arrested for failing to do their assignments, and also for wearing dirty uniforms. Acting President Yemi Osinbajo on Friday promised that the Federal Government is planning an urgent relief to poultry farmers in the country to save the industry from collapse. He gave the indication during his second meeting in the week with representatives of the poultry industry at the Presidential Villa. The intervention is part of an urgent effort by the federal government to address challenges in the agricultural sub-sector in line with its policy on self-sufficiency in food production. The poultry industry has had to contend with a number of challenges including an outbreak of Avian Influenza which affected almost four million birds in 2015. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved November 18, 2017 for the conduct of the Anambra governorship election, INEC National Commissioner, Solomon Soyebi, said. Soyebi made this known at a news conference on Thursday in Abuja. He said that the 1999 Constitution as amended, and the Electoral Act, had stipulated that the earliest day for the conduct of the election shall be October 18, while latest date for the election shall be February 14, 2018. It also stipulated that the tenure of the state governor would expire on March 16, 2018. According to INEC timetable for the election, campaigns by political parties will start on August 18 and close by Noember. 16, while primaries will be held between July 22 and September 2.   Abeokuta, Ogun state Nigeria scored fourth from bottom on a new study of quality of life in 60 African cities conducted by a Swiss research body, Communaute d’Etudes pour l’Amenagement du Territoire at the Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL). THE Chinese government has demanded dry yam from Nigeria to meet industrial and domestic needs. This was disclosed by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, Thursday, in Abuja, which a technical working committee was inaugurated to fast track the exportation of yam by July 2017.  The Minister said Nigeria has remained one of the world’s largest producer of yam, which accounts for 61.7 per cent of the global production of the rot crop, while there are over 60 varieties of yam, but sadly, Nigeria not among yam exporting countries. A young child who was thought to have died of the wounds he sustained from dog bites has woken up as the family took his body to be buried. Kumar Marewad, 17, left family, friends and locals in complete shock with his sudden revival. The boy had come down with a high fever after the dog bite and his condition deteriorated after being brought to hospital in the Dharwad area of India. Doctors had told relatives to expect the worst, as an infection had spread throughout his body. After hours on a life support machine, Kumar’s family decided to take him home for his final moments, the Times of India reports. The family said Kumar eventually stopped moving or breathing for some time and they presumed he was dead. Fox News has apologised to Kenyans for using footage of the Westgate mall terror attack in a new series '24 Legacy.' The American series aired the video of how the terrorists shot and killed civilians at the mall in September 2013. The apology came one hour after the Kenya Film Classification Board demanded that Fox News pull down the footage, with Kenyans on social media tweeting at Fox under the hashtags #SomeoneTellFox. In a statement released through Quartz media, a Fox Studios spokesperson confirmed that the footage used was of the mall attack. 'The producers very much regret using it to depict a fictional act of terror on the show,' the spokesman told Quartz media. Executive producers Evan Katz and Manny Coto said they were sorry for the pain they caused victims. 'We apologise for any pain caused to victims and their families and are deeply sorry.
